September 3rd, 2010

This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for people to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot.    Ecclesiastes 5:18

Labor Day is just around the corner. Many are out of work and struggling with great challenges in their lives today. Some have just heard that they are no longer needed in their workplace. Difficult days are ahead. How one reacts to the changes unwanted in our lives reflects our focus.
We can choose to be grateful for the time or what we had or resentful for what we do not have.

My new calling is to serve Lois in this new season of our life. I am to be her helpmate as God designed.
I could be resentful that I do tasks around our home or thankful that I am able to do some of these for Lois.
Our lives as we knew them have changed but our calling has not. We are to serve God and others as we are able. Today I give thanks for the "...few days of life God has given..." to serve as I am able. I give thanks for the labor I have been given to be a helpmate.
